Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) - UCL Grand Challenges

University College London asked me to scribe at this event. This was a steep learning curve for me, but fascinating. All about using a natural process of rock weathering of basalt, but giving it a nudge to capture a lot more carbon from the atmosphere.

 Had a great morning last week, working on a round table discussion with the British Screen Forum https://britishscreenforum.co.uk/, on what the future political horizon will hold in store for the sector.

Keeping Children in School, Derby Inclusion Partnership

Had a fab time up in Derby City last week scribing for their Inclusive Partnership, and I loved how the've embraced my drawings and are using them for a campaign to get kids back into school, and enjoying themselves there!

Derby Educational Event

A day up in Derby for an education conference with a difference - how to build on inclusion within schools, so that everyone feels a part of something and no-one has to feel 'not good enough'.

Inspiring day, Jo Wilkinson is a wonderful leader and I felt humbled and privileged to work on this event. It felt like a movement for change was really taking shape!

I was asked to visually summarise a review into the services provided for children and young people in care, in several London boroughs. 

Unsurprisingly the effects of cuts to local services has had an effect on how well these vulnerable children and teenagers feel supported.

 

Anglia Ruskin University - Cambridge

Had a fascinating day scribing at this research-based conference a couple of weeks ago in Cambridge.

How can we use research to create safer more inclusive communities? How can universities use their knowledge and influence to affect change in the wider society? Discuss.

Addressing the AI Skills gap in the UK, AI in Health and Transport

I'm working at a research workshop tomorrow all about AI, the skills gap and looking at future scenarios in the healthcare and transport sector, so have done a bit of limbering up to get in the right frame of mind.

AI has been in the news a lot in the past few weeks, with ChatGBT and the development of software that creates images from text or a brief description. 

Will us scribes and illustrators still have a job in the next few years...? Maybe I'll find out tomorrow!

Camden Evening and Night Time Citizens Assembly

On Saturday I was asked to come and listen to a gathering of Camden residents as they came up with ideas for their vibrant borough. Camden has so much going on at night, but this was a chance for other voices to be heard. More on this to come!

 

Illustrations to enhance communication

I was asked to do these images for an organisation that is very child-focussed, and to link each priority to a scenario, in order to make each one more memorable.

This is an iterative process and so these images will be developed further with input from staff and management.

This work was for a local council in southwest London. The brief was to capture the first meeting of the council after a hiatus of 2 years, and to help communicate their new aims and objectives. Thanks to Toby Ross for passing on this speeded up short film of a few hours' worth of me live scribing.

What Family Means to Us

I was asked to draw up this image after a recent workshop.

The dandelion imagery came from one of the participants: dandelions grow tightly together like a family unit, and then disperse as individual seeds, in order to establish their own new 'family'.

Drawings for John Kelly, Musician, Work in progress

John Kelly is a musician who lives with a severe physical disability - but it's not held him back. He's had a guitar specially designed for his needs, and is touring his new album all over the place, from Wales to Holland! 

He asked me to do some drawings for his new album, each drawing is in response to a song on the album. These will be used as a printed insert for the physical CD (I know, old school!). 

John sings from the heart and his life has been devoted to fighting for disability rights and making his and others' voices heard.
