Open University and Bangla Housing Association

This is for an ongoing research project into elderly Bangladeshi people's housing situation in collaboration with the Open University and the Bangla Housing Association https://www.banglaha.org.uk/. 

This meeting was held over the summer, and the next meeting will be in November. It will be interesting to see how the project develops, it's great to be involved in a longer term project, rather than just being parachuted in for the day and then never seeing anyone again!

The lady in green was also used to recruit more people to get involved in the project. Such a friendly smiley crowd, and some delicious food for lunch :)

Leaving Cards

Sometimes I get asked to draw leaving cards, so have attached a few here. My favourite was for Rhiannon, who, (in her alternative universe!) managed to erase all the things she couldn't cope with any more - like pointless meetings, Man Flu and procurement...

Drawings for London Genetics Network Conference

Had a head-scratching day last week, figuring out what to draw for a bunch of very clever people - at a conference of geneticists. Wow, this really is another world! 

In the future all our genomes will be mapped at birth, potential future illnesses predicted, and hopefully disaster averted. Ah, if only life were that simple :)

Great to finally meet (in-person!) Angelica Ronald and Karoline Kuchenbaecker who co-hosted the LGN, as the last 2 years have been virtual events.

Living Safely with Covid-19

Some ongoing work done for a London local authority. We're all enjoying our holidays and the blazing summer we're having here in the UK but Covid is still with us. Stay safe y'all!

 

What Family Means to Us

I was asked to draw up this image after a recent workshop.

The dandelion imagery came from one of the participants: dandelions grow tightly together like a family unit, and then disperse as individual seeds, in order to establish their own new 'family'.

Illustrations as Reminders

I was asked to draw some images to help guide staff through the process of their work for Cafcass (Child and Family Court Advisory and Support Service).

Anyone involved in the family courts system knows that this is a very stressful period for families and their children, so hopefully these images help the workforce, and in turn help the individuals going through this journey.

 

Drawings for John Kelly, Musician, Work in progress

John Kelly is a musician who lives with a severe physical disability - but it's not held him back. He's had a guitar specially designed for his needs, and is touring his new album all over the place, from Wales to Holland! 

He asked me to do some drawings for his new album, each drawing is in response to a song on the album. These will be used as a printed insert for the physical CD (I know, old school!). 

John sings from the heart and his life has been devoted to fighting for disability rights and making his and others' voices heard.

Conference season in Full Swing

Things in conference-land seem to have fully returned to normal so I've been working on conferences in real life again. People seem genuinely pleased to see each other and I'm glad to be getting out and about, sometimes to some swanky venues. 

Here's me in one of them in central London,  surrounded two days' worth of drawings that I worked on with a colleague. 

 

Future Water Association - Water Dragons 2022

I was asked back for another round of this annual event. I'm hoping that Proteus's design is put into action soon. Pollution levels in England's rivers are currently very high and need monitoring, as well as more attention from the water industry.

 

Climate Change Citizens Assembly - Herefordshire

A week ago I worked for Herefordshire council to capture the talks and discussions surrounding a Citizens' Assembly, subject: Climate Change.

Big subject, wide-ranging views and information out there - bottom line: we need to act NOW as Climate change is happening already. It may be a case of trying to limit the damage rather than trying to stop it going any further. It's got to be as urgently address as the recent COVID pandemic, it's that serious and the effects as wide-ranging.
