Co-Production in East London

A piece of work done in collaboration with local residents to redevelop a Hackney community centre, also involving architects, co-production facilitators and town planners. To plan the image I used the building as a focal image, that I drew in advance, and used the four differently coloured themes in quadrants around it.

This job needed help from the facilitators to make it work, so I had note takers from the 4 groups who helped harvest information and feed it to me, so that I could stay by the paper and keep drawing, because people were scattered around the building.

I'd recommend this way of working if you have lots of breakout groups but still want an overall sense of the feedback in the room. Or alternatively you could have a more sophisticated setup that the folks at a company called 'Realise' have, involving software similar to Mentimetre, but with a lot more questions lined up. I was working with them last week and that worked really well!

Looking After Children in Southeast London

A recent piece of work for Bexley's S.H.I.E.L.D. a multi-agency partnership safeguarding children and young people. https://bexleysafeguardingpartnership.co.uk/

The hope is to create a more joined up approach within the council, and to provide clarity for the public on what services to access when. Also reach out to people and build a communication bridge, before they're in desperate need.

Open University and Bangla Housing Association

This is for an ongoing research project into elderly Bangladeshi people's housing situation in collaboration with the Open University and the Bangla Housing Association https://www.banglaha.org.uk/.

This meeting was held over the summer, and the next meeting will be in November. It will be interesting to see how the project develops, it's great to be involved in a longer term project, rather than just being parachuted in for the day and then never seeing anyone again!

The lady in green was also used to recruit more people to get involved in the project. Such a friendly smiley crowd, and some delicious food for lunch :)

Image with Bengali translation to attract more people to take part in the research project.

Family Hubs in Kent

I've been commissioned by Kent County Council to record local views on the development of the new Family Hub model. I was in Margate on Wednesday and Sheerness on Thursday. Very different views and demographic in the two different areas which was interesting. I'll return in a month to gather more feedback.

Anglia Ruskin University - Cambridge

Had a fascinating day scribing at this research-based conference a couple of weeks ago in Cambridge.

How can we use research to create safer more inclusive communities? How can universities use their knowledge and influence to affect change in the wider society? Discuss.

Nottingham City Council

Some more recent work from last week (things are very busy at the moment!) this time for Nottingham Council in collaboration with Nottingham University.

This was for the first children's social care conference for quite a while, and people were very glad to get together again after such a lot of online gatherings.

The mighty Professor Eileen Munro was also present and gave an interactive workshop in the afternoon.

Children's Trust Board, London Borough of Merton

I listened to an online meeting and then created a graphic record of this annual meeting.

The image will be blown up to a large poster size and put on the office wall to remind and inspire people in their day to day working lives - of all the great work done, and everything still to come!

Grassroots work with Volunteering Matters and the GLA

Second job of the year with Volunteering Matters, and the GLA, focussing on upskilling community groups and bring people together for collective action.

Partly a workshop and partly an opportunity to share stories for inspiration and food for thought.

This was held at the pioneering Bromley-By-Bow centre in east London. Thanks to Volunteering Matters for inviting me back, and the GLA for funding this project.

Camden Evening and Night Time Citizens Assembly

On Saturday I was asked to come and listen to a gathering of Camden residents as they came up with ideas for their vibrant borough. Camden has so much going on at night, but this was a chance for other voices to be heard. More on this to come!

Sound Connections - Inclusive Practice in Action

Day 2 of this powerful and moving conference, all about race and racism and how it affects children in music education. A group of educators and musicians came together to discuss this subject and learn from each other.

More on Sound Connections here: https://www.sound-connections.org.uk/

Thanks to John Kelly: http://www.rockinpaddy.com/ for asking Abi D'Amore to get me involved!
