Nottingham City Council

Some more recent work from last week (things are very busy at the moment!) this time for Nottingham Council in collaboration with Nottingham University.

This was for the first children's social care conference for quite a while, and people were very glad to get together again after such a lot of online gatherings.

The mighty Professor Eileen Munro was also present and gave an interactive workshop in the afternoon.

Camden Evening and Night Time Citizens' Assembly - final week

Had a lovely session last week with the fabulous citizens of Camden, in a central London location. Much debate, disagreement, discussion and lots of heart in the room.

And yes, there is a blank space in the middle of the image - the final vision is still at the 'wordsmithery' stage, so watch this space.

And here's me next to the graphic, absolutely exhausted at the end of the day!

Camden Evening and Night Time Citizens Assembly

On Saturday I was asked to come and listen to a gathering of Camden residents as they came up with ideas for their vibrant borough. Camden has so much going on at night, but this was a chance for other voices to be heard. More on this to come!

Volunteering Matters - London

Last week I was working as a graphic recorder for 'Volunteering Matters' https://volunteeringmatters.org.uk/
They are working hard to connect all the various groups that are doing such great work in and around London. It was a really refreshing and uplifting day.

Drawings for London Genetics Network Conference

Had a head-scratching day last week, figuring out what to draw for a bunch of very clever people - at a conference of geneticists. Wow, this really is another world!

In the future all our genomes will be mapped at birth, potential future illnesses predicted, and hopefully disaster averted. Ah, if only life were that simple :)

Great to finally meet (in-person!) Angelica Ronald and Karoline Kuchenbaecker who co-hosted the LGN, as the last 2 years have been virtual events.

Conference season in Full Swing

Things in conference-land seem to have fully returned to normal so I've been working on conferences in real life again. People seem genuinely pleased to see each other and I'm glad to be getting out and about, sometimes to some swanky venues.

Here's me in one of them in central London,  surrounded two days' worth of drawings that I worked on with a colleague.

Live Graphic Recording

Some recent work for Cafcass - they are developing a new forum for families to right wrongs, make changes to current systems and encourage a more kind and healing process.

This part I drew up post event, as the client then had time to sift through the information and provide me with the main points that will be of use to them.

I'm finding this method, although not as spontaneous, I think gives a better result for the client!

Animating a story - Wellbeing in the Workplace

I've been collaborating with a small team to create a short animation.

It's been an interesting process, and is teaching me quite a lot about how collaboration leads to more than the sum of each of our parts, and it's been quite fun too!

Here are some 'work in progress' images - to show the storyboard process,  and then the short film will follow soon.

Working Digitally - Putting it all together

You may not have time to read my various recent blogposts about all the different ways I can help you with drawing - so to put it simply, I've done this drawing in procreate. The program has tracked the marks I make and plays it back as a short film:

And here's the final image it lands on:

Scribing at Peckham Levels, London

This week I was working at a great venue, a regenerated car park in south London:

https://www.peckhamlevels.org/

This was for Southwark council. They wanted to get closer to families and find out what 'helped' and what got in the way, as well as how parents/carers and their children can get more involved and shape the services they need.

I started by putting up the title...

and the evening was a bit of a whirlwind so only managed another pic right at the end!

Thanks to Beatrice Baumgartner-Cohen for the referral.

St Mungo's Graphic Recording turned into Illustration

Earlier in the year I spent a day with a group of researchers at St Mungo's. This was a peer-led research group, looking into the 'push' and 'pull' factors of why people return to rough sleeping.

So why do people return? A lot of the time it's because there isn't the support network around them to make it work, whereas on the streets you're part of a community.

The day I spent with them listening and drawing 'live' was used to illustrate their findings in a report and smaller brochure, and this has just been published:

Thanks to Lucy Holmes from St Mungo's for asking me to get involved.
