Open University and Bangla Housing Association

This is for an ongoing research project into elderly Bangladeshi people's housing situation in collaboration with the Open University and the Bangla Housing Association https://www.banglaha.org.uk/. 

This meeting was held over the summer, and the next meeting will be in November. It will be interesting to see how the project develops, it's great to be involved in a longer term project, rather than just being parachuted in for the day and then never seeing anyone again!

The lady in green was also used to recruit more people to get involved in the project. Such a friendly smiley crowd, and some delicious food for lunch :)

Nottingham City Council

Some more recent work from last week (things are very busy at the moment!) this time for Nottingham Council in collaboration with Nottingham University. 

This was for the first children's social care conference for quite a while, and people were very glad to get together again after such a lot of online gatherings.

The mighty Professor Eileen Munro was also present and gave an interactive workshop in the afternoon.

Camden Evening and Night Time Citizens Assembly

On Saturday I was asked to come and listen to a gathering of Camden residents as they came up with ideas for their vibrant borough. Camden has so much going on at night, but this was a chance for other voices to be heard. More on this to come!

 

Animating a story - Wellbeing in the Workplace

I've been collaborating with a small team to create a short animation. 

It's been an interesting process, and is teaching me quite a lot about how collaboration leads to more than the sum of each of our parts, and it's been quite fun too!

Here are some 'work in progress' images - to show the storyboard process,  and then the short film will follow soon.

London Graphic Recording - Resolution Foundation and UCL

Complex and interesting afternoon - exploring the multiple inequalities in the UK today, and how it is affecting health, housing, education and work throughout people's lives. This was a research project commissioned by UCL and the Resolution Foundation.

School for CEOs - Graphic Recording, London

Some recent work for The School for CEOs involved a photographer documenting the day, and for once he got me talking to the group - it's usually just the back of my head on display!

Runway is a training programme and interactive workshop for managers that the school teaches several times a year in London and Edinburgh.

Scribing at Peckham Levels, London

This week I was working at a great venue, a regenerated car park in south London:

This was for Southwark council. They wanted to get closer to families and find out what 'helped' and what got in the way, as well as how parents/carers and their children can get more involved and shape the services they need.

I started by putting up the title...

and the evening was a bit of a whirlwind so only managed another pic right at the end!

Human Resources: The Home Office

The Home Office is trying to recruit more people from all backgrounds to reflect the society we live in. Encouraging diversity and inclusion all the way up through the grades, to senior civil servant level (or SCS in Home Office parlance).

I really liked this quote, to show true inclusion: "not just being asked to the party, but also being asked to dance at the party".

There were some really encouraging stories, especially in the case of school outreach programmes in order to change perceptions early on.

Some recent scribing activity - as I've not blogged for a while!

These were for a community foundation and for a patient consultation on sharing health data.

Sometimes I'm asked to very dynamic and interactive meetings, that somehow don't reach their target.

When there are no conclusions or actions at a meeting a graphic recording can show this very clearly, with the large amount of blank space in the 'actions' section.

I was asked whether this discouraged the people at the meeting, but no, they were going to used the blank spaces as the starting point for their next meeting!

Bespoke Illustrations

These images were commissioned by a client who has been using them for workshops, in order to communicate their ideas more clearly to a global audience.

Bespoke illustrations like these can be very effective for clients, especially if they are created together collaboratively. Do get in touch if you have a project in mind!

Amnesty International in Manchester

I've been asked to capture some investigative workshops held by Amnesty across the country - the first one was in Manchester earlier this month.

A lovely bunch of people with some great ideas on how we can all 'Be Amnesty'. Very inspiring.
