Building Diversity in East Midlands Children's Services Staff

I was asked to scribe at this day of celebration and learning. The East Midlands is a very diverse area and it's important that children's services staff reflect that, also at senior levels. This was an event to keep moving forward with this aim. 

Communicating ideas with your Social Work staff team

These images were commissioned earlier this year by an east London borough as part of their social work practice week. They act as reminders to the social workers to capture the child's voice at every stage of their life, including from pre-birth (well, the circumstances of their pre-birth life!) and as a baby.

Scribing in Devon

Here is some recent live scribing work for Devon County Council for a training day for Children's services on the theme of child neglect. 

There have been some extreme cases of neglect in Devon and the service is keen to prevent this happening in future.

And above is the second job for Devon County Council I completed this week. A dedicated group of social workers, trying very hard to keep children not only safe but flourishing.

Children's Service in Nottingham

I was up in Nottingham yesterday, scribing for a great group of people as part of a children's services conference. I was also telling the story of one person who'd had a really difficult start in life, but had managed to turn things around. Amazing what people are capable of...

As well as enjoying the group, I really loved riding the trams in Nottingham!

 

Caring for people with Autism in Camden

This month I was commissioned by Richard Lohan of Camden's accessible information team to draw out some images that will be used for a short film to explain how to assist young people with autism who may be going through a period of change.

I especially liked drawing out the breathing exercise and thought we could all probably do with the adoption of the worry box: put all your worries in a box and then make an appointment to go through them one by one with a person who cares about you.

I was asked to visually summarise a review into the services provided for children and young people in care, in several London boroughs. 

Unsurprisingly the effects of cuts to local services has had an effect on how well these vulnerable children and teenagers feel supported.
