Patients as Partners

A recent piece of work highlighting the benefits of patients and clinicians working in partnership for better outcomes for recipients of their services.

This one was for Crohn's and Colitis UK, and started in Sheffield, but similar projects are running around the country, and this particular project is also looking to expand and grow. People with lived experience can contribute to better future services. Inspiring work!

Live work - in action

Please press play twice for the film to play!

This work was for a local council in southwest London. The brief was to capture the first meeting of the council after a hiatus of 2 years, and to help communicate their new aims and objectives. Thanks to Toby Ross for passing on this speeded up short film of a few hours' worth of me live scribing.

Living Safely with Covid-19

Some ongoing work done for a London local authority. We're all enjoying our holidays and the blazing summer we're having here in the UK but Covid is still with us. Stay safe y'all!

Anatomy of a logo design

I was asked to create a logo for a local authority department, (which is the top image below). The cohort wanted to spread the word about what they do and feel that they had an identity they could amplify.

In case you're interested about process, I have also shown the iterations that went on to get to the final design, kicking off with the notes from the initial briefing call, through various colour waves in response to group feedback.

It was truly a co-designed job in action!

National Voices - Storytelling for 'Voices for Improvement'

This was a collaborative project with the charity National Voices https://www.nationalvoices.org.uk/

National Voices have undergone a significant change process in order to bring more experts-by-experience into their organisation, and they wanted to document the journey they've been on, as they now offer a coaching and mentoring service for other organisations. This is the story of 'Voice for Improvement':

Process: we met and I was talked through the brief. I showed various examples of how to tackle telling the story/presenting the information. In the end, because it was quite a lot of info we opted for 3 separate storyboards. The work on the storyboards started with the client, and this sketch was done by the client and circulated with her team to ensure she'd not missed anything:

We then discussed it on a zoom call and amended as needed, going through the language and visuals to check it was communicating what was needed = complete sketch-carnage!

Afterwards I drew up the final images and they were circulated for a final check and any amends that were needed. This process started in the autumn, and the majority of the initial sketch work was done by the client, so I'm grateful for their input, as it's become a truly collaborative piece of work.

With thanks to Keymn and Rachel from National Voices, it's been a really enjoyable process.

Logo for Genetics study in Pakistan

I was asked by a joint group of geneticists based in UCL London and psychiatrists from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan to come up with a logo  for their ongoing study of the influence of genetics on the local population's mental health.

This final logo design incorporates the flag of Pakistan, the role of psychology and genetics and its roots in studying the local population.

In Peshawar they will have had a large influx of people fleeing war and extreme poverty, as it's very close to the afghan border.

There were numerous iterations before we came to an agreement on the final image!

Thanks to Karoline Kuchenbaecker and Maria Valkovskaya from University College London for liaising with the team in Pakistan - we got there in the end!

Climate Change Citizens Assembly - Herefordshire

A week ago I worked for Herefordshire council to capture the talks and discussions surrounding a Citizens' Assembly, subject: Climate Change.

Big subject, wide-ranging views and information out there - bottom line: we need to act NOW as Climate change is happening already. It may be a case of trying to limit the damage rather than trying to stop it going any further. It's got to be as urgently address as the recent COVID pandemic, it's that serious and the effects as wide-ranging.

With thanks to Sarah Fishbourne from Impact Consultancy for making contact and getting me involved.

Healthy Start Promotion

These posters (plus e-signature) were commissioned to promote the uptake of healthy eating vouchers in Merton. I'm hoping the word gets out and more people feel they can access this great support!

Illustrations for the Children and Young People's Plan - Merton

Some recent work for a new plan commissioned by a council in southwest London. Merton is yet another London borough with huge variations of wealth and poverty and with it varying health outcomes for lifelong residents.

This plan is quite unusual in that all the information was gathered by local young people, called 'Young Champions'. They were able to reach more children and young people and get more opinions and ideas because they were seen as peers and equals:

National Voices - Healthcare Illustration

This was a set of illustrations commissioned by the organisation National Voices to set out main aims and objectives both during and after our era of Covid-19.

More about National Voices here:

One day, if we're lucky, we'll grow to be old, and possibly quite frail.

Let's hope, once we're through all of this, that we end up caring more for each other, especially the elderly, infirm and those with long-term health conditions.

National Voices

I created these drawings for a recent campaign by the charity 'National Voices' to highlight the healthcare needs of people with disabilities and chronic illnesses in the current COVID-19 age.

Hopefully the report will help people get the care they so desperately need, and open up different conversations about the services people need to access.

More information on the campaign to be found here:

Animating a story - Wellbeing in the Workplace

I've been collaborating with a small team to create a short animation.

It's been an interesting process, and is teaching me quite a lot about how collaboration leads to more than the sum of each of our parts, and it's been quite fun too!

Here are some 'work in progress' images - to show the storyboard process,  and then the short film will follow soon.
